Krefeld's cultural offerings for everyone
Owing to its eventful history, Krefeld is open to cultural trends and innovations. The seismograph for these developments has traditionally been the theatre. For over 60 years the Municipal Theatre Krefeld has - in cooperation with the theatre in Mönchengladbach - been presenting interested visitors with a varied selection from three different genres. Since 1950 the two theatres have been offering opera, drama, ballet and musictheatre, as well as theatre for children and young people. In addition there is also a flourishing and multifaceted independent scene in which living room theatres, dance events, cabarets, street artists, children's and puppettheatres and musicians provide both entertainment and education.
Niche providers also have their place in Krefeld. The Jazzkeller has been attracting international jazz greats to Krefeld since 1958 and is involved in the promotion of young talent. The multi-purpose hall of the KönigPALASTprovides a framework for top-class sporting and musical events. The Seidenweberhaus is the venue for both the theatre and the Lower Rhine Symphony Orchestra, which delights not only audiences from Krefeld with its symphony, choral, chamber music and children's concerts. Writers and comedians also make regular guest appearances in Krefeld. The successesof the numerous sports clubs are also repeatedly the talk of the town, particularly the Krefeld Ice Hockey Club. During the horse racing season, the race days offer entertainment for the whole family. A number of bars and clubs open their doors for night owls.
